Spiderwood is a beloved choice among aquascaping enthusiasts for its unique, twisted branches and natural beauty. Our Spiderwood on Slate is the ultimate cheat code for achieving a professional planted aquarium hardscape without the frustration of floating wood. By pre-attaching these intricate pieces to a natural slate base, we’ve eliminated the need for heavy rocks or unsightly suction cups. Simply place it or bury the slate under your substrate, and you have an instant, stable centerpiece for your aquarium.
Product Features and Benefits
·Anchor-Ready Design: Spiderwood is notoriously buoyant, but the integrated slate base acts as a built-in anchor. This ensures your aquarium wood stays exactly where you put it from day one.
·Dynamic Branching: Known for its "wild" and twisting limbs, it offers the perfect framework for attaching Moss, Anubias, or Bucephalandra, creating a lush forest look.
·Versatile Placement: The slate base is thin enough to be easily concealed by gravel or soil, giving the appearance that the wood is growing naturally out of your aquarium hardscape.

Preparation and Care
Even with a slate base, Spiderwood requires a little attention to ensure it looks its best in your aquarium with wood.
·Rinse: Thoroughly rinse the piece to remove any dust or debris from transit.
·The "Biofilm" Phase: It is completely normal for a harmless, white fuzzy biofilm to appear on the branches during the first few weeks. Your shrimp and snails will consider this a delicacy and clear it up in no time.
·Tannin Management: Spiderwood is a low-tannin wood, but it may still add a slight amber tint to the water. This is a natural occurrence, and the effects will subside over time. If you prefer the crystal-clear look, boil the wood for 1–2 hours or soak it in a separate container until the water runs clear. You can also reduce this effect through consistent water changes or through the addition of Aquario Neo Carbon Bag
Important note: We recommend rinsing wood thoroughly before adding it to an established aquarium. If you prefer, you may also boil the wood for at least 1–2 hours to help release tannins.
