A mound of dark pink flowers forms each summer on Rock 'N Round Pride and Joy Stonecrop Sedum, but the color keeps on going after the flowers fade. The sedum hybrid has fall and winter interest too, as pretty seed heads remain after the pink fades, and the dark green, fleshy foliage provides winter color. This easy-care, drought-tolerant succulent is about as versatile as it gets in zones 3 through 9.
Place several of these sedums along a walkway or entryway for a mounded border, or edge a garden bed full of taller plants. Rock ‘N Round grows to just under a foot high and 16 to 20 inches around. It also looks terrific as a container filler or as a groundcover in a rock garden. Plant a bunch of these together for an easy-care mass planting, with summer flowers for bees and butterflies.
Rock 'N Round Pride and Joy Stonecrop Sedum Care
Like most sedums, Rock ‘N Round Pride and Joy needs lots of sun to thrive, so choose a spot that gets at least 6 hours of sun a day. This versatile succulent can grow in nearly any soil type, as long as the soil drains well. Avoid planting it where water tends to pool or soil stays wet. For containers, place it in a mix that does not retain too much water and complement it with other low-water plants or succulents.
Once your sedum matures, it needs so supplemental watering, just rainfall. It can tolerate periods of drought. It also needs no fertilizer, performing each summer with no extra food or care. If desired, you can trim the plant, but it likely needs no pruning at all. The only thing that hurts the plant is too much water, or occasionally, a deer.
Rock 'N Round Pride and Joy Stonecrop Sedum Spacing
Space your stonecrop plants far enough apart to give them room to reach full size. In a border or mass planting, give the plants between 16 and 20 inches of room from one plant’s center to another.
