This is a versatile plant that can be used on its own or planted in combination with other plants to create a striking look. This disease-resistant plant will draw butterflies to your yard but is deer-resistant, making it a great option if you live in an area with a large deer population. This Verbena is a perennial in USDA zones 8, 9, 10, and 11.
Superbena® Imperial Blue™ Verbena Plant Care
Plant in part sun to sun, so at least 4 to 6 hours of sunlight is necessary for best results. Soil should have a pH of 5.8 to 7.2. Newly planted Verbena needs consistently damp soil, but established plants only need water when the top couple of inches of the soil dry out. Container-grown Verbena will dry out more quickly and will need water more often. Soggy conditions can lead to root rot and pests, so wait until the soil is dry to water and always opt for well-draining soil. Verbena plants are not heavy feeders, but a monthly fertilizer application will promote new growth and keep the plants healthy.
Prune the plant if it looks overgrown or tired. Verbena is a vigorous grower that can look ragged partway through the summer. Trimming back up to ⅓ of the growth can kickstart new growth and promote more branching and flowers.
