We customized several of these for giveaways and client appreciation tokens. They have been incredibly well received, and we love knowing if they have any issues at all, there is an amazing warranty backing them up. I love my Leatherman Surge! It goes well with my Leatherman Tread, and the Leatherman Wave+ I gave to my Daughter… I did order the pocket-clip, yet went back to the sheath, as the pocket-clip is a little too loose and bends rather easy in comparison to some materials made by Leatherman. Other then, I greatly enjoy all other features!

This is my 2nd Surge. It has been my EDC for 5 years or so. I even had a custom kidex holster made for it. The size has changed a tiny bit on this new one but it still fits. Only complaint is the custom logo I paid for was total crap. Weird color shades, barely visible, and doesn't look like it's going to last.

Leatherman is a fantastic product all by itself. Custom Leatherman is a masterpiece. I love what they have done and a fantastic warranty. Only fault I can find is in the sheath. It's not leather anymore and no horizontal belt loops.

I looked at many brands before deciding in the Leatherman. Gerber, Victornox, and others and there really isn't any comparison if your planning on using it. The fit and finish are top notch and the tool is made to be repaired IF that were ever needed. Sometimes it pays to save money, and sometimes your a whole lot better off spending money for better tools. Your knuckles will thank you. Thanks Leatherman for making a quality tool.

When I got this I was a little disappointed. The weight and size are noticeabley heavier and larger than my wave or charge. Since using it for a while it has become my go-to tool to carry at work. I no longer notice the increase and it handles a lot of my tasks far easier that the wave or charge. Love it. The other good news is with the sheath being a bit larger I can tuck my small Klein flashlight right next to it!

So I have had a surge for a while it's an excellent multi-tool. Sometimes you need specialized tools but dang if the surge don't do most of it specially if you get the extra driver bits. This one I gave as a gift all personalized. For a friend who saw me snip some steel cable with mine and got jealous. If I was to find something to criticize. I would talk to the lack of options for holsters to carry the surge. I love mounting my multi-tool on my belt horizontally I find it wiggles less. You can get a cheap velcro holster that mounts that way but it won't hold your extra driver bits and I flat out don't trust velcro I have lost tools because of it before. The really nice premium snap holster is better fits the drivers but it doesn't mount horizontal. It's little sad that there is so much customization to the tool but when it comes to making it easy to keep with you at the ready it's kind of just figure it out yourself.

Best multi-tool I've ever owned, including another Leatherman. My only issues are that the bottle opener (being one and the same with the can opener) will pierce a bottle cap before actually removing it, and the ruler (being broken in the middle, because of how the pliers accommodate it) is not intuitive to read

This thing is a mule. I own a MUT, a BOND, and used to own a SIGNAL before it got stolen. Though the signal was, and still is and probably always will be my favorite due to my lifestyle,,,,the SURGE is definately the best option for work. It’s beefy, cuts thick wires, even cuts metal bands from steel barrels. My favorite things about it are the diamond sharpener, the large pliers, and when you use the bit driver, you can actually hold the tool closed and with your full hand, unlike with the signal where it buts against the hammer, and unlike with the MUT, where it also buts against the hammer while using a bit driver extension. I do wish it had a microbit driver. I debated this decision a lot between the surge and the wave +. I chose the surge ultimately because it’s larger, stronger and has better and bigger scissors. I have done reasesrch and found out that the surge is very customizeable and you can actually buy the micro bit driver and install it onto the surge if you remove one of the other tools in the handle. May give that a try. But I absolutely love this thing! It’s heavy, but if you’re wanting a tough tool, weight is essential. Complaining a lot about the weight is like getting a pickup truck and then complaining about the gas mileage. If you want a light weight tool that can save your life…. it’s the signal.

Overall I love the Leatherman Surge. The quality and tools are amazing however there is room for improvement. I especially love the size of the scissors, for me, that was the deciding factor and it did not dissapoint. The scissors found in other models punch above their weight class for sure, but thes Surge scissors are great for bigger jobs (larger zip ties, pastic belts, garden trimmings etc. ) The larger handle leads to less hand fatigue as well. Both knives seem to be of excellent quality and I appreciate their size, other LM models seem to skimp out on the blades. Not this one. I also love the ingenious removal saw/ file tool. Stiff at first, but It opens up a brave new world for those tinkerers who enjoy modifying their tools to their extremely specific needs. LM could release a whole set of t-slot compatable tools/ blanks and I would buy. First, the Surge has a removal bit driver yet it comes with two more flat head (or blade) style drivers - replace the larger one with an awl or something less redundant. Additionally, within the first week of use, a small metal chip became jammed in the locking mechanism for the tools on inside handle -- the side that includes the retractable lanyard loop. I thought the tool was broken from the manufactuer because the internal tools would swing out loosely, especiallly when I didn't wan them to. I fixed the problem by pulling out the lanyard loop and blowing the tool with compressed air.
