I wanted to see how sea-worthy this game was, so I brought it on a boat to play with my family. We tried it out and really liked it. My son and I have played about a billion hands of the original game, and we really like how much of that translated into the board game, as well as the new cards. I was a little scared about switching modes but it worked out totally fine...zero problems. We enjoyed it and have played a bunch of times since. Definitely a keeper, and we're already getting lots of games in since they're all pretty quick.
*Note: the game isn't waterproof, and never claims to be. Keep it dry.

Love the adaptation of this. works well, defintely needs t be more than 2 players. I think the board could have a few more spaces. the board needs a tab/handle for the page to be flipped back and forth. it was difficult to grab at times. there could be more 'move' cards, even with 2 players we found that card stack to have to be reset too often.

Our family highly anticipated playing the board game version of Exploding Kittens, we were not disappointed. The board is cleverly made, with illustrations that change when you flip the board making the kitty and surroundings change from playful to devilish. Players choose gamepieces that are familiar characters from Exploding Kittens, such as Rainbow Ralphing Cat and Potato Cat, along with some new cats like Garden Gnome cat. The game took around 20-35 mins with 5 people, which is a good amount of time to play multiple rounds. With three people it went a bit faster, about 15 mins, with one lucky player sweeping. Some players wished the game lasted a little longer. Also, we'd love an expansion to add a greater variety of cards or more players than the 6 maximum.
Gameplay involves moving gamepieces from start to finish by drawing move tokens without landing on an explosion space while collecting and playing cards. Cards can be used to sabotage other players or move your own piece, along with a few other abilities. Exploding doesn't remove a player from the game but does move them to last place on the board. The board flips to increase the players' chance of exploding, adding an unexpected and unique element. Danger Magnet cards also increase the chance of exploding but can be used with a defuse to the player's advantage.
Gameplay was easy to understand and fast to begin. The only thing our players wanted clarification on was whether the Danger Magnets go back in the Danger Magnet stack after they are used in the move deck, or if they go in the move deck discard pile. We ended up leaving the danger magnets in the discard pile after they were used, we decided they are permanent for the game they are played in.
We all really liked the cool board artwork and design, and found the game to be a lot of fun. Everyone wanted to play again, except maybe the bearded dragon.

The Pros: This game is really fun and dynamic. I love the flipping board and how it changes the game. Games are relatively quick (unlike Monopoly) so you can play many games per session. It is easy to set up, learn the rules, and tear down. It can be easily converted to a drinking or stripping game.
The Cons: I wish the game pieces were made of something more durable than cardboard (metal/plastic); cardboard would degrade over time. I would like to add more "Move" cards; actions can be the same, I just wanted more of them.
Overall: Wonderful, easy to play, fun game for adults and children. The artwork and writing are comical and clever. Highly recommend.

We took this on family vacation and the 11 & 12 year olds broke it open. After reading the instructions a couple times, we got playing and really got into a groove with it. Everyone chose chaos whenever able to - sabotaging each other with the danger magnets every 5 minutes. Giggles ensued and fun was had.

Super fun to play! The action is fast and can change instantly so it keeps everyone on their toes. Could possibly be turned into a drinking/stripping game for adults.

Played a couple of times. I loved that you don't have to be stingy with the cards in this version. The flip mechanic is very enjoyable and fun. Plays quickly and is very replayable. Everyone loved it. I think we might like better than the card game even.

OK - this was a really fun game, with *really* neat complications such as the board flip.
Artwork was excellent, game play was fast, and the way the board was organized (with markers where to place various items along the board edge) was really helpful.
Thje only thing I'm worried about is longevity (with no data to back this up as of yet, but I still worry). We take a lot of our games to our beach house and one of the things we often encounter is swelling up of various cards/cardboard/paper elements in the humidity. We have even resorted to putting our OG Exploding Kittens deck (Kickstarter era!) on cookie sheets into the oven on low heat to dry out the cards on one occasion when they got puffy from the humidity. The flip-over-board element to this new game seems like it would not work so well if humidity swells up various elements (see paper hinge in pink circle in attached images)
Playing this only in your airconditioned home? 5-Stars! Humidity in your playing space? Or 4-stars sheerly out of concern for how long the construction will last at the beach....

The What and the Who:
Exploding Kittens: The Board Game is similar to the card game version. The biggest difference is the addition of the board and the roll to move mechanic. I would recommend this game to families with small kids who are looking for a new addition to their board game nights. However, as someone in her early twenties, I prefer Exploding Kittens: The Card Game better, as I feel like it is more straightforward and easier to set up.
Pros:
- Comes with a board that is reminiscent of children's pop up books - unique and fun piece of toy!
- Great Catch up mechanic and now exploding doesn't exclude the players out of the game.
- Lots of choices and areas to strategies.
Cons:
- Takes up too much space on the table.
- Is easily predictable with the use of lots of cards. Makes the game less fun and more like planning.
- Wish there was more room for sabotage.
Additional Thoughts:
I played the game with 2 players and 6 players, and I can confidently say that it is more fun with more players. We unanimously agreed that it would have been better if the board was longer.

Great game, good extension to the card game fun for all

We had a group of kids play the game in our library.
The kids felt the game was fun because it was interactive and the art design was appealing.
The game was a little confusing the first time we played. More move cards would be useful when playing with 6 players. More action cards that allow you to sabotage other players. Everyone said they would play again.

This game had so much potential. Threat of chaos? Check. Possibility to betray your friends and throw them into the path of destruction? Check. An underwhelming sense of 'meh" once the game began? Unfortunately, check.
For starters, the instructions amd field guides were well written....but having to flip between the two to figure out the rules and actions quickly became annoying. We had to restart twice due to not fully understanding what some of the cards did, due to not reading through the entire field guide beforehand.
Speaking of cards - y'all missed your chance on the "Antinope" cards. I played with two other people and we all agreed that "NOPE-alope" would have been 1000x better.
The game play itself was fairly to the point and easy enough - as long as you read exactly what each Action card was meant to do. Understanding each Action card was tricky at times and required multiple read throughs of both the card and the Field Guide. We all agreed that it would have been smoother if the FG was read before playing, not during the game
The game was pretty quick to play once we figured out how to strategically turn against each other. But even then, it felt like it was missing something, but no one could quite say what. Maybe more action from the action cards? More spaces to go around the board?
Overall, the board design was cute amd interesting, the Action cards were funny to read, the pop up aspect to the board was really cool...but the game itself felt bland. We played through three times and none of us were interested in playing again after that. Honestly, we had more fun switching the board back amd forth, amd watching the pop up action.
A bit disappointing overall.

Took this camping and it was a huge hit. The double board was super fun. Only criticism was the game play was a little too quick but that didn’t stop us from playing it all night.

If you are a fan of the Exploding Kittens card game, you are going to love this board game. You can play as six characters, including fan-favourites like Taco Cat, Watermelon Cat, and Sushi Cat. The artwork, illustrations, and attention to detail are evident in this one.
Setting it up is super simple and follows the usual quick and easy instructions that you can expect from Exploding Kitten games. The goal of the game is to reach the end, but you might need to make a few attempts to get the exact move count needed to win.
The one feature that stands out in this game is the interactive "flipping" board, which lets you switch the game board between Calm Mode and Chaos Mode. Switching between these two modes made the game exciting as it added an element of unpredictability just like the card game.
I would recommend this game to anyone looking for a fun party game to play with up to 6 players that is quick to learn and set up.

Setup and rule dissertation went smoothly. The instructional video QR code didn't give us one, but since it's pre launch that probably doesn't weigh on things. Once we shuffled them better than I did, the variety of cards made for a very good time. Both of my volunteer co-players professed they would've liked to see more cards, but the variety art and flavour texts were a hit. We enjoyed the board flip mechanic, more after one player was told it wasn't a full 'get this out of here' flip. The danger magnet discs were a cool way to inject danger and outright malice for our competitors. We managed two games within 45 minutes, so(checked after playing) we hit the suggested game length. One player opined it would be interesting to have a longer game. If the board couldn't be enlarged somehow, perhaps a secondary play rule of 'winning means going to the ribbon and back'; to hardwire that in would require an arrow by the litter box similar to the ribbonsl's arrow to keep the exact roll requirement(but it would also just be imagined). The pieces were easy to assemble, and the board flip mechanic and magnets performed quite well. We did find some issues with player tokens near the board fold during a flip. Maybe if those holes were slightly more oval along the horizontal? All in all, we quite enjoyed our time with this, and it will enter regular game rotation!

Good overall.! We like how once you hit an exploding kitten you aren’t permanently out like with the card game. It was fun to flip the board. Unclear if you are on an exploding kitten when you flip the board do you still still explode? Good gameplay with 3 people.

Fans of Exploding Kittens the card game will feel very at home in this new board game.
This takes the excitement of the original game and amps it up.
The variation of action cards and movement are a great twist, but they are nothing compared to the innovative board that switches from calm to chaos! It's an engineering marvel and can make the end-game a REAL pain.
As with other Exploding Kittens games, the art is top notch.
This is definitely going in the game night rotation.
Exploding Kittens gave me an early copy of the game in exchange for an honest review.

Creative and fun. Great next step for exploding kittens. My son enjoyed it

Overall, we were impressed with the quality of the board itself. The magnets worked well, and it was fun to see the board change. It does feel as though it skews to a younger artist. I enjoyed how quick each round of the game was - it made it feel much more accessible. I do have some concern with the longevity of the board, and how long until it no longer opens as it is supposed to, especially if a younger audience were playing with it.
Personally, I’m not sure how often I will be reaching for it, as I enjoy the card game version better. The mechanics of trading with the person furthest behind started to get a little silly, and felt more like chutes and ladders, and since the Explosions were planned for, you were never surprised when you exploded, as you do in the card game. Having those on the board removed some of the excitement and strategy - it felt more like a basic “board game”.
As always with Exploding Kittens realm cards, the art and design on the cards was exceptional, and we enjoyed reading every card to see the fun joke.
