Purchased these 'Black Velvet' nasturtium seeds at an Agway location in Connecticut in early spring of this year (all stores have since closed, as company went out of business). The seeds germinated readily, however it is disappointing that the flower color is not at all as described.

a nice variation to mix in with other nasturtiums. i was able to pop them in the ground (zone 10) without issue. the goth in me would like the red to be a bit darker, but they are gorgeous. looking forward to next year’s volunteers!

Thanks to Lorin’s advice last year, my nasturtiums are surviving and providing the color that I was hoping for this year! Thank you EG and Lorin ;-)

Last year was my first full season as a home gardener and I wanted these black velvet nasturtiums. They grew but did not color at all. Lorin from EG took the time to educate me as to how to grow them better and I took her advice this year. Her advice worked! I wanted to provide follow up photos. It’s just the beginning of the process, but it’s working. Thank you Lorin and EG. ;-)

Love the seeds. Beautiful, deep color that pops with all the green leaves in the garden. Great grower. Planted seeds in the garden and they took off quickly. Will purchase again.

Can’t really review these seeds since they won’t be planted until spring or summer.

I'm planting out a pollinator patch with mostly natives and a few honeybee plants, but nasturtiums are just so gorgeous, healthy, and vibrant that I HAVE to have them standing out as edging/border plants. They're leafy green right now, no flowers yet, but ought to grow out well.

I would like to update my review. As I said in the first one, I am a beginner gardener. As such, I didn’t know that the reason why my black nasturtiums didn’t flower was due to the quality of the soil and because I was fertilizing the whole GreenStalk from the water reservoir, and they don’t necessarily like or need fertilizer! I learned this from Lorin of Epic Gardening. When they say that they will follow up with you they really mean it! She sent me a well explained email that was uber useful. Now, next season I will have my gorgeous flowers. Thank you Lorin and thank you EG.

I’m a beginner gardener, so take my review with a grain of salt. The seeds germinated in the 6-cells into seedlings and all made it to planting except for one. Planted them in my greenstalk the first week of May and they were green, beautiful and healthy. Over time I lost a couple more plants by early July. But get this, they never got their color! I was really looking forward to seeing black, velvety petals cascading down the greenstalk alongside my red cherry tomatoes in a double helix affect, to no avail. They did germinate though, and the greens are pretty.

I've been growing nasturtiums for years. The color of the Black Velvet really caught my attention so it was game on. They took a little longer than two weeks to germinate. Good germination rate, maybe 85%. Huge amount of foliage and it took weeks for the first buds to appear. When the flowers came, they came on in a rush. A lot of them, all at one time. And when the flowers came, all the foliage died off, leaving a plant that looked hideous. It looked so bad in fact that I pulled the plants two weeks after they started blooming. Beautiful big burgundy color blooms - hideous plant overall. I don't recommend this variety.

I bought them because they were edible. I didn't like the flavor so I didn't eat many.

Gorgeous dark red flowers and purple tinged vines. They didn't like the hot, dry, conditions in our yard. Would grow again in a cooler, wetter location.
