How To Select Trailer Hitch Ball Mount

·Know your weight

First, be sure to select a ball mount with enough gross trailer weight capacity to fit your trailer. Trailer weight is one of the most important aspects of towing, and you should never exceed the weight capacity of any component of your vehicle, trailer or trailer hitch setup.

·Hitch receiver size

Receiver tubes come in a handful of standard sizes, including 1-1/4, 2, 2-1/2 and sometimes 3 inches, so finding a ball mount to match is relatively easy.

How much drop or rise your ball mount will need

·Measure the coupler height from the ground to the bottom of the trailer’s coupler (B)

·Measure the hitch height from the ground to the top of the receiver opening (A)

·Calculate the difference between the hitch height and the coupler height. (B minus A)
