Cutting Compounds: Metal Polishing Compound for Buffing Wheels
Renegade Products manufactures premium polishing compounds using high-quality raw materials. We never use cheap fillers—just high-performance formulas built for serious metal polishing results.
Our cutting compounds are designed for use with our stiffest buffing wheels. They do the heavy lifting by cutting through oxidation and surface imperfections quickly and efficiently.
What Are Metal Polishing Compounds?
Polishing compounds work with Airway Buffing Wheels to enhance cutting, buffing, and finishing power. Coarser compounds remove scratches, while finer ones add depth and shine to the final polish.
To apply, simply coat the edges of the airway buffing wheel with the compound. This helps maximize performance and ensures even distribution during polishing.
How Do I Prep for Polishing?
Proper prep starts with sanding. Begin with 180 grit, step up to 220, and finish with 400 grit sanding discs. For aluminum, 400 grit is typically all you need before using tripoli compound.
You can also use buff and blend prep discs. The blue ones work great for removing rust and grime. After that, use our maroon satin airway before polishing to reduce marks from the blue disc.

What Do Compound Colors Mean?
Compound color often comes from natural abrasive content. Tripoli, for instance, has a reddish tone due to its abrasive pigments, which also give it polishing power.
When compounds look alike but have different performance levels, we add pigment or dye to help users easily tell them apart during selection and use.
Pro Tip:
Between polishing stages, use our Renegade Red Liquid Metal Polish, Renegade Pro Red, or Pipe Dream Chrome Polish to maintain a brilliant, show-quality finish.
