Product description
"A must-read for this era.”—Jake Tapper, CNN Anchor and Chief Washington Correspondent
An insightful, urgent, and perennially relevant handbook that lays out in common sense language how the United States Constitution works, and how its protections are eroding before our eyes—essential reading for anyone who wants to understand and parse the constantly breaking news about the backbone of American government.
The Constitution is the most significant document in America. But do you fully understand what this valuable document means to you? In How to Read the Constitution--and Why, legal expert and educator Kimberly Wehle spells out in clear, simple, and common sense terms what is in the Constitution, and most importantly, what it means. In compelling terms and including text from the United States Constitution, she describes how the Constitution’s protections are eroding—not only in express terms but by virtue of the many legal and social norms that no longer shore up its legitimacy—and why every American needs to heed to this “red flag” moment in our democracy.
This invaluable—and timely—resource includes the Constitution in its entirety and covers nearly every significant aspect of the text,  from the powers of the President and how the three branches of government are designed to hold each other accountable, to what it means to have individual rights—including free speech, the right to bear arms, the right to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures, and the right to an abortion. Finally, the book explains why it has never been more important than now for all Americans to know how our Constitution works—and why, if we don’t step in to protect it now, we could lose its protections forever.
How to Read the Constitution--and Why is essential reading for anyone who cares about maintaining an accountable government and the individual freedoms that the Constitution enshrines for everyone in America—regardless of political party.

It's clear now that Russia has succeeded in taking over and having complete influence over Trump, MAGA, and the United States, as a whole. Trump refuses to back anything that is anti-Russia, or would have him stand-up against Russia. In a little over a month, the United States has isolated many allies, including the UK, Denmark/Greenland, and Canada. They refuse to stand with Ukraine, and are trying to extort their minerals with threats of shutting off their Starlink internet. Because of this, the United States may potentially be kicked out of NATO. Trump is firing hundreds of thousands of federal employees, and hiring loyalists in many of these positions. Loyalist military leaders should be of the most concern for United States citizens. This opens up a military that gives oath to Trump, and not the Constitution. Trump and Musk seem to want a one shade country, fully dependent on them, that they can control. Do note, North Koreans citizens cannot travel freely within their country, much less outside of it. Trump really looks up to their leader, and once called him, “very talented” in regards to what he did with his country. Yikes. #musk #trump #america #unitedstates #christian #russia #coup #kgb #hostilegovernmenttakeover #nato #ukraine #worldtiktok #fyp #sendhelp #sanitynotincluded

They’re counting on you never reading the thing they keep yelling about.” How to Read the Constitution and Why by Kim Wehle is a plain language guide to the document everybody loves to quote and almost nobody has actually read. She breaks down what the Constitution really says about your rights, voting, protest, policing, Congress, the presidency, and the Supreme Court and how those words get twisted in real time by politicians, judges, and pundits. Wehle walks you through the articles, amendments, the Bill of Rights, checks and balances, federal vs state power, due process, equal protection, and separation of powers without the law school jargon. It’s basically a survival manual for citizens: how to understand what’s constitutional, what’s propaganda, and why elections, court appointments, and “small” legal changes hit your daily life. If you’re tired of culture-war shouting matches and want to actually know what the Constitution says before somebody weaponizes it in your face, this is the book. #booktok #bookrecs #holidayhaul #tiktokshopcreatorpicks #mustreadbooks

Quick civics check: Donald Trump can want a 3rd term all he wants… the Constitution doesn’t care.” In How to Read the Constitution—and Why, Kim Wehle shows how hard it actually is to change this thing. For Trump (or anybody) to get a 3rd term, you’d have to amend the Constitution itself because the 22nd Amendment clearly limits presidents to two elected terms. No ‘do-over,’ no ‘just this once.’ And that change has to go through Article V: 2/3 of Congress or 2/3 of the states to even propose an amendment, then 3/4 of the states have to ratify it. Translation: you don’t just wake up one day and vibe your way into a 3rd term. The framers locked the door and double-bolted it. This book is literally about moments like this when politicians float wild ideas, and the only thing standing between you and nonsense is whether you’ve actually read the rulebook.#booktok #bookrecs #tiktokshopcreatorpicks #holidayhaul #constitution
