·CARE: Avoid washing while the piece is hot; let it cool down to prevent cracking or breaking. Hand wash it gently with mild soap and water. Let it air dry completely. Red clay, like black clay, can be prone to odors. Use it regularly! This is one of the most important care tips that Emerenciana recommends. Do not dishwash.-FOR UNCURED PIECES: Mix 2 tbsp of Mexican lime ((calcium hydroxide)) with water to make a paste. Apply it to top using a brush or cloth, avoiding direct contact to prevent burns. Leave the griddle in direct sunlight or over a fire until the lime paste dries completely. Brush off any remaining lime residue. Optionally, rub the cooking side with wood ash or burnt tortilla.-FOR CURED PIECES: This comal comes pre-cured to be ready to use. Barro rojo griddles keep curing with use, so make sure to use it plenty before washing. Hand-wash until fully cooled only when necessary. Between meals, simply dust off traces of food.
