Yarn

Yarn sold with knitting and crochet supplies, compared by fiber, weight, and yardage per skein.

Introduction

Yarn here is a skein or cake for knitting and crochet, not a finished blanket. Read fiber, yarn weight, and yardage so the ball matches the gauge your pattern actually calls for.

  • Fiber: wool, acrylic, cotton, or a blend, plus whether it is superwash.
  • Weight ( through super bulky) and recommended needle or hook range.
  • Yards or meters per skein and the dye-lot number if you need more than one ball.

Match two skeins on weight and yardage. A styled throw photo is not a substitute for the wrap and fiber line.

FAQs

Copy the pattern's weight and gauge, then compare yards per skein so you buy enough balls from one dye lot.

Acrylic is easy to wash. Wool has more spring. Blends split the difference if the label lists both.

It is the batch color. Mixing lots on a large project can show a stripe where the cakes meet.

Only if the weight and gauge match. Cotton drapes more and wool bounces; your finished size will change.

The wrap, fiber, and yardage triad on the ball band, not a photo of someone wearing a finished cardigan.
