P90s have a wider bobbin and more windings, giving stronger output and a fuller midrange compared with narrow single-coils.

P90s require a larger cavity; many builders modify the pickguard and route the body accordingly.

Like any single-coil, P90s can pick up hum; copper shielding in the cavity and a shielded cable help reduce interference.

Most players choose .010–.046 or .011–.049 to balance tension with the pickup’s magnetic pull.

Some aftermarket P90s include a tap switch; traditional P90s lack the extra wire needed for splitting.
