Our natural bamboo whisk, known as a chasen in Japanese, is an essential tool for preparing matcha and achieving a rich, frothy foam. Crafted with up to 50 fine tines, it ensures smooth and thorough whisking for the perfect cup every time.

Before use, soak the tines in warm water to soften the bamboo, enhancing flexibility and resilience for optimal performance. Shake off any excess water before whisking. After use, rinse the tines thoroughly with warm water to remove matcha residue. Shake off moisture and place the chasen on the included rest to air dry completely, which helps prevent mold by allowing the handle to stay dry.

To extend your chasen’s lifespan, store it in an environment with moderate humidity. Over time, exposure to very dry conditions may cause the bamboo to develop small splits in the handle — a natural occurrence with standard-quality chasen. With proper care, your chasen can serve you well for over 200 bowls of matcha.
