I started these seeds end of October in az inside in a cup of soil as we were still quite warm at this time I transplanted him shortly after germination when temps started to come down and this guy has thrived in some partial shade in a grow bag. Excited to harvest soon !

Easy to germinate and grow! The leaves and stalks are wonderful in stir fry. I got a couple rounds off of these plants before they flowered. I had an aphid problem, so then I pulled them. They were relatively fast growing.

I had forgotten I sowed seeds for this, then as it matured, I realized it wasn't standard broccoli. This produces nice tender stems and florets, & a lot of florets per plant. It's very nice to have this as an option along with standard Waltham broccoli, yu choy & broccoli raab.

Chinese Broccoli or Gai Lan as we call it growing is my favorite veggie. Tender and mild flavor is perfect for sauteeing in oil and your favorite sauce or spices. You harvest 6 -8 inches from the tops of the little broccoli-like sprouts once they form.
I couldn't find seeds anywhere until BI so I bought several. I was delighted when they grew quickly and now we are ecstatic in having harvested already 8 times for meals and sharing even with family. Generous crop. Definitely getting more!

I don't think these are the Chinese broccoli I see in the Chinese supermarket or restaurant. They look different and taste different. It doesn't taste bad, but I'm just surprised because it's not what I expected.

I always prefer this over the typical heading broccoli as i usually have much better luck with growing this one. Our springs and autumns typically consist of wildly swinging temperatures from very warm / hot, to very cold, which has a tendency to make most brassicas bolt early, i dont have to worry so much about that with this crop since I'm mostly growing them for the leafy greens.

It's hard to explain and I'm not 100% sure if I'm right yet. But there are two plants labeled Chinese broccoli. This one is the Chinese Kale kailaan/gailan. The other is Chinese broccoli Yhod Fah. I hope this helps!! This is a good mix of kale and broccoli flavors, the later is more like broccoli.
